Venues and planners and cakes, oh my!
So many details swirling around your big day can take the fun out of your engagement. Don't you dare let the romance slip away!!
We strongly recommend hiring a qualified event planner like Gala Events and Weddings. Alegria and her team take the surprises out of your big day--leaving you more time for fun and romance. We also love Shauna Karver's eye for styling with J29 Events. Miss Mix Match is a new planner in town with fresh ideas.
If,however, you are already deep into the DIY Wedding adventure, may we suggest the following faves among Sweet Basil Catering staff and clients:
Alder Grove Gardens (northern Humboldt) has long been one of our favorite spots to celebrate an outdoor wedding. Pam and Gary have an outdoor bar, bbq pit, a zipline, and a beautiful pond-complete with a boat and lily pads! We love Pam's attention to detail in making her beautiful country home welcoming.
Julia Morgan Redwood Grove-this stunning venue flanks the river and redwoods behind two privacy gates near the Benbow Inn, just south of Garberville. We find it difficult to choose between an indoor and outdoor preference--both are impeccably detailed for elegant comfort. Organic gardens and an orchard add mouthwatering appeal to the exquisite grounds, and the onsite staff is charming and helpful.
Miranda Gardens is a great spot for out of town family to spend the weekend. Cabins are included in the price and the landscaping is quaint and lovely for an intimate gathering.
Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center along the Eureka waterfront has amazing vistas of the harbor, Samoa bridge, and vibrant sunsets. Pricing is surprisingly affordable, and an onsite staff is ready to help.
Celebration Blvd in Old Town Eureka is an affordable indoor venue with a kitchen and easy terms. We love the windows and architecture, and the professionalism which owner Carole Crossley shares in every element.
Moonstone Beach House, aka Merriman's Beach House, is parked right on the beach in northern Humboldt. Recent renovations have added an element of casual, beachy class to this iconic wedding venue.
San Francisco Theological Seminary is a real castle! Need we say more? If you are a princess or marrying one, this is the place for you in Marin County. Because it is a graduate school, the price is surprisingly affordable.
Brutacao Winery in Hopland has incredible vistas and a fantastic open air structure for a memorable warm summer evening. Seating for several hundred would be no problem, whether for a ceremony or tented reception.
The well appointed Thompson House in Shelter Cove has ample room for the wedding party to spend the weekend, while supporting a guest list of 100+ on a manicured lawn. We love the finished garage with pool and ping pong tables, as well as a back up for rain.
Fern Cottage in picturesque Ferndale offers the quintessential burlap and lace wedding backdrop. From old gnarled fruit trees to lush green grass and weathered wood structures, photo ops abound!
Wedding Rock at Patrick's Point State Park north of Trinidad is a popular site to tie the knot. Couples hold casual outdoor receptions here in meadows, under the cover of cypress trees, and in the group camp area complete with an outdoor kitchen. The view of the mighty Pacific from atop the rock itself is unsurpassed!
Avenue of the Giants has a myriad of groves to provide the perfect back drop for your shabby chic, burlap and lace, or enchanted forest wedding. Drop us a line for detailed descriptions of specific groves.
